{"id":778,"date":"2013-03-06T13:30:37","date_gmt":"2013-03-06T12:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vierpuntnul.nl\/?p=187"},"modified":"2023-12-07T18:32:34","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T18:32:34","slug":"rules-are-for-the-weak-and-standard-of-excellence-for-the-strong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ortogonaal.nl\/en\/rules-are-for-the-weak-and-standard-of-excellence-for-the-strong\/","title":{"rendered":"Rules are for the weak and standard of excellence for the strong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We leven in moralistische tijden: politici en journalisten zijn de hele dag bezig de burgers de maat te nemen of men wel het goede gedrag vertoond en &#8211; dat is het meest kwalijke &#8211; de juiste opvattingen deelt en ventileert. \u00a0Het is blijkbaar de geest der tijd.<\/p>\n<p>Afgezien van het feit dat dit gedrag onvermijdelijk zal leiden naar een repressieve maatschappij is er nog een ander opvallend effect: de roep om overheidsingrijpen en dus de ontwikkeling van\u00a0<strong>procedures<\/strong>\u00a0 (wettten) als er eens wat fout gaat of het juiste gedrag niet wordt vertoond.<\/p>\n<p>Dit deed mij denken aan een management (sales) cursus (beste ooit) die ik in 2000, toen ik directeur werd van de Gouden Gids in Nederland, \u00a0heb gehad bij het voor de Yellow Pages toonaangevende bedrijf &#8220;The Berry Company&#8221; gevestigd in Dayton, Ohio (US) en feitelijk de uitvinder van de advertentie gedreven\u00a0gecategoriseerd\u00a0bedrijven gidsen die we naar de kleur van het papier waarop het werd gedrukt, gele (later in Nederland) Gouden Gidsen zijn gaan noemen.<\/p>\n<p>Deze management cursus heeft grote indruk op mij gemaakt en definitief gebroken met (a) de eenzijdige beeldvorming die wij in Nederland over Amerikaanse bedrijven hebben en (b) het belang van op de lange termijn gerichte klantgerichtheid voor de\u00a0continu\u00efteit\u00a0van het product en dus het bedrijf.<\/p>\n<p>En van de uitgangspunten van Berry was dat de kwaliteit van de mensen, medewerkers, managers alleen bepalend zijn voor het succes van het bedrijf. En goede mensen hebben geen opgelegde procedures en regels nodig: dat is alleen voor de dommen! Politici begrijpen daar niets van, want volgens hen zullen er \u00a0regels zijn en moeten komen. Als dat de maat is voor hete inzicht van onze overheidsdienaren, dan is daarmee de domheid van de bureaucratie in Brussel nog eens duidelijk bewezen: een grotere onnutte regelgeving-machine als de Europese Unie is niet te bedenken!<\/p>\n<p>Maar ook het bedrijfsleven heeft er veel last van: regels, gebrek aan delegatie, gebrek aan vertrouwen (in de ondergeschikten) en vooral focus op korte termijn. Wat dat betreft is het nuttig eens te kijken naar &#8220;The Ten Truth&#8221; van The Berry company.
